Ciro 17 Jewel Vintage Ladies Rhinestone Watch
Affordably elegant: That is how Ciro jewelry has been described. This vintage ladies watch fits the bill. It is gold tone links with a working clasp. In fact, the clasp is a safety clasp, with a smaller hidden clasp under the main clasp; that way if the main clasp catches on something and comes open, the additional safety clasp will keep the watch from falling off your wrist.
The watch face is covered with a hinged door that is rimmed with tiny clear rhinestones. I would have loved to show you a picture of the watch face but I couldn't figure out how to hold the door open. Don't get me wrong -- it opens -- it just doesn't stay open -- it snaps closed when you release it. The face is marked Ciro at the top, 17 jewels at the bottom and Swiss Made at the very bottom. The numeral 12 shows in arabic; the remaining numerals are gold tone lines with 1, 5, 7 & 11 being longer than the other lines. The face is white or off-white and measures 1/2 inch by 1/4 inch. The band is 6.5 inches. You have to have a small wrist, like mine -- it fits me perfectly. THIS WATCH STILL RUNS!! It is from the 1950s or possibly the 1960s.
It does show some signs of being well loved and worn (by my aunt -- this is from her estate.) Some of the links show some metal wear on the edges and on the inside. There are a couple of rhinestones that are off-color, but not completely dark. I would probably take this to a watch repair person to have it professionally cleaned. While being in what I would call very good condition, it does have that patina of vintage wear. So if you expect new-like perfection, this watch is probably not for you. But if you love vintage watches, especially one that is still running, then this would be an amazing addition to your collection. And a beautiful adornment for your wrist -- like having a lovely bracelet and watch in one!
